Ice Fishing

Ice fishing is a popular winter activity that many people from outside of Maine miss out on. I like it because it offers a dramatic contrast to open-water fishing and always produces some of the largest fish of the season. The fact that it tends to be a very social activity also greatly adds to its appeal.

I offer a limited number of guided ice fishing trips each winter. These trips can range from a challenging wilderness excursion in pursuit of trophy lake trout and salmon, to an easy day of fishing out of a heated ice shack or lakeside cabin. Single day trips are $320 and include all of your fishing gear, a hot lunch, and a snowmobile ride to the fishing grounds (when conditions allow). Multi-day trips are priced according to target species and travel time. Kids and well-behaved dogs are welcome on appropriate trips. We can provide warm boots, gloves and outerwear for a very nominal charge.

I also offer trip planning and accommodation booking services for anglers interested in an unguided ice fishing trip. Night trips to heated smelt shacks that have lights and cook stoves are particularly popular.

Kevin S, Windham, ME

"Just standing on a frozen lake and watching you drill the holes through two feet of ice was worth the trip. All the lake trout and salmon that we caught was just a bonus."
Mike T, Virginia

"After seeing all the hard work you did to make us comfortable, I really think you should charge more."
