introduction to fly fishing

Our Introduction to Fly Fishing school is designed to get you solidly grounded in the fundamentals needed to enjoy fly fishing. After completing this school, you should have all the skills and understanding necessary to catch fish with a fly rod. The following topics are included in the curriculum:

The Theory of Fly Fishing
Equipment Selection and Tackle Assembly
Knots and Line Connections
Fundamentals of Fly Casting
Fish Foods and Their Imitations
Entomology as it Relates to Fly Selection
Fly Fishing Strategies
Wading and Safety

Our Introduction to Fly Fishing schools are generally held during the winter and early spring so that you can work on your fly fishing fundamentals in the ‘off-season’ and be ready to catch fish in the spring. For your convenience, we typically offer classes in two formats, multiple week night evenings, or a weekend session.

Our 2010 Introduction to Fly Fishing schools wil be held at the University of Maine, Orono. Cost will be $75 per student. Please contact us for more details.

Our Basic Fly Casting clinic is an ideal follow up this Introduction to Fly Fishing school. Casting is done outdoors after the weather breaks in the spring and provides lots of hands-on instruction and practice.
